After nearly losing his life to foil a terror plot that threatened to be the worst since September 11th, former IRA volunteer, Declan McIver, is laying low in rural Ireland and awaiting the birth of his first child. To finally clear his name, Declan has agreed to a meeting with American and British dignitaries—risking both his and his wife's safety as he exposes himself once again to the world.

But when bombs go off in Northern England and Declan's old friend, MI5 officer Shane O'Reilly, goes missing, Declan finds himself trapped in the middle of another shadowy plot. Desperate to put an end to the latest threat to his life and to his continued freedom, Declan reluctantly teams with an MI6 officer he knows only as Harper and begins to track down the obscure forces behind the attacks.

Rules for Revenge A Declan McIver Novel Black Shuck Thriller Series eBook Ian Graham

The hero of Ian Graham's 2013 debut thriller "Veil of Civility" is back and the personal stakes are higher than ever in "Rules for Revenge," the second novel of the Black Shuck series.

Graham knows how to write a well-paced, thrilling novel and the character of Declan MacIver is at the core of his appeal. A former IRA terrorist reminiscent of Higgins' Sean Dillon, his portrayal brings with it a certain nuance not often found in the genre.

A man of two worlds, the American and the Irish, the family man and the former terrorist, the complex dichotomy of Declan's character is probably best summed up by an exchange in which a skeptical British intelligence officer asks him if his mechanical expertise was "learned building bombs in Belfast."

Declan's reply? "No, fixing garage doors in America."

For those wondering if he could follow up the success of "Veil of Civility," Graham delivers a tense, suspenseful thriller which ends with the promise of much, much more to come.

Highly recommended. 5 stars.

Rules for Revenge A Declan McIver Novel Black Shuck Thriller Series eBook Ian Graham Reviews

I enjoyed both the plot and the writing s excellent. Obviously I can't wait for the follow up novel. Enjoyed it very much.
Declan McIver, a character whose integrity leads him into fast moving and intriguing scenarios. I want more of him. (I know he is fictional. Stop worrying.)
Reading Ian Graham's Declan McIver novels is like having a nonstop thriller movie being screened in your brain. The characters are complex yet believable. There are twists and turns on every page. And you are left wanting the next "chapter". Now I have to wait for his next volume.
Starts out at Good paced & about a third of the way in picks up speed & keeps getting faster paced until the end. Or does it end ??? Anxiously waiting for the next installment of Declan McIver & his friends.
Another cross country adventure that has you guessing where you're heading at every turn. Injustice, corruption and unfortunate events drag Declan back into this thrilling story. The ending was both satisfying and makes me anxious for the next in the series! Thank you for another great book Mr. Graham. Best wishes on your success
This is the second full length novel in the Declan McIver Thriller Series. Coming in at 575 pages this meaty volume does not disappoint in any way. It serves to add authority to Graham's masterful ability to tell an intriguing and complex story in a skillful way that does not confuse the reader.
In the opening pages we find Declan and his wife, Constance, living secretly at an estate in Ireland. While awaiting proof of his innocence in a terrorist bombing which took place in America. Declan is unaware of a plot by certain people, who have connections high up in the British government, to track him down and place blame on him for more bombings, this time in England.
After foiling an attempt on his life, Declan and his pregnant wife are on the run again. Fed up with hiding out while being erroneously accused of a crime perpetrated by those who want to upset the balance of power that rules England, Declan sets out to find those responsible for not only the bombing attack, but for the kidnapping of an MI5 operative, and longtime friend, Shane O'Rielly. Against his wife's wishes Declan uses one of his aliases to fly into Switzerland to begin his quest for truth. Accompanied by a Secret Security agent, Harper, McIver becomes the target of a monstrosity of a man he calls Behemoth. Narrowly escaping capture McIver and Harper set out on a quest to find answers that lead to uncovering the names of those who mean to take over the British government. How will this convoluted plot end? Will McIver and Harper survive to return safely to England? Will Shane O'Rielly's location be discovered in time to save his life?
Fans of the Declan McIver series will be quite satisfied with this addition. If you haven't read any previous books in this series I encourage you to catch up. You won't regret it.
As always, happy reading.
Former IRA member, Declan McIver's history keeps coming back. He is being setup by someone that knows that history well and gets help in figuring out who it is. While Declan and a new friend, Harper, are being chased as they track down leads in Switzerland, Allardyce, leader of the British Security Service and his section chief of the Irish & Domestic Counterterrorism, Mr. Thom, are investigating who is behind the attacks on the home front after they were fired.
Ian Graham does a nice job with the action on both fronts. I hope he doesn't take too long to write the next one.
